How much fun was last Friday night, as we were entertained by our talented students. The performances were impressive, but what I was most impressed with was the students who were nervous about getting up on stage but confronted their fear and did an outstanding job. It is a lesson that can

only be learnt through the experience of pushing past nervousness and trusting the process. At St Paul’s, we strive to build grit and perseverance in our students and lessons learnt from experiences like the concert can be a catalyst for students to connect pushing through challenges with classroom learning.

Stepping into the Spotlight

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

A HUGE well-done to our staff for your efforts with creating such a fantastic evening for our whole school community!

We hope to see you at our Term 4 Parent Information Session at 6:30pm on Tuesday 15 November. We will be sharing our learning journey and initiatives for 2023. Our school board members will also be there, so it will be a great opportunity to join together as a school community and celebrate the future plans of our wonderful school.

Yours in Christian Service

HAPPENINGS WITH HOLLIE

How good was the school concert?! Thank you so much for coming and being part of the evening. It was wonderful to have our school community share in our gifts and talents and enjoy some light-hearted fun together.

As the year winds down, in many ways we are already looking into how we can continue to extend and develop the progress we’ve made this year into 2023 and beyond. A major focus next year will be in the Teaching & Learning space. As I’ve mentioned previously, in 2023 all schools in NSW, across K-2 (Early Stage 1 and Stage 1) will be implementing a new English and Mathematics curriculum.

Both of these Key Learning Areas have implemented an explicit approach to teaching and learning. One of the differences between the old and new is the approach to how reading is taught. The Science of Reading (SoR) identifies five essential components that make up the simple view of reading:

Phonemic awareness

Phonics

Fluency

Vocabulary

Comprehension

In the new English syllabus, these five areas combine in a structured Literacy approach which research has shown provides a necessary foundation for the success of early readers. Decodable readers support this approach and as a result in Junior Primary next year, decodable texts will be used as take-home readers and also in class. These texts are structured so that they contain sound-letter relationships and word types that students have been taught. They are less repetitive than PM readers and require students to sound out words based on learned sounds. There is also less guessing involved with unknown words by the pictures provided. Students are definitely required to ‘decode’ the text.

YEAR K/1/2

On Wednesday 23rd Nov the K-2 class are visiting the Henty Library. This also happens to be their Grandparent’s Day. As a result, we would like to invite our special people to join us if they’re free. It will be from 12-1pm. If you could let me know if anyone will be attending by emailing hollie.kinning@stpaulshenty.nsw.edu.au that would be appreciated. We’ll also take the opportunity to walk around Henty, play at the park and perhaps even enjoy an icy pole from the IGA together!

The concert was so much fun! It was a highlight of the year that’s for sure. Well done to the K-2 class for bravely trying new things by performing on stage, collaborating as we practised our play and dance, showing curiosity towards new experiences, remembering lines and generally just being VERY sweet farmyard animals, police and thieves. Can’t wait for the next concert!

Blessings,

Hollie

YEAR 3/4/5/6

Last week, we held our Leadership elections for 2023. Year 5 spoke to the school on what leadership means to them and how they would embody this in a leadership role. They all did an amazing job and should be very proud!

We are thrilled to announce that the 2023 School Captain for next year is Aiden Cunningham and Vice-Captain is Oscar Haines.

The Mundawadra Sport Captain is Micah Klemke and the Buckargingah Sport Captain is John.

Many blessings,

Katie Ridley

CONCERT FUN

mainly music

On the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month we enjoy welcoming our special visitors to our mainly music sessions. Here's a bit of a glimpse into the fun we had at our last session!

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

We Ran Out Of Boxes! We had 15 boxes ready for the students to pack with all the goodies supplied by St Paul's families and friends. We filled those and then had to go hunting for more! Thanks to the generosity of our school community we had enough items to fill 20 boxes! Wow! Thank you so much for getting behind this beautiful ministry. And thank you to the P&F for covering the $10 postage for each box. We know there will be many children blessed this Christmas thanks to your support.
