It was great to hear the fun-filled holiday stories from students on their return to school this week. It reinforces not only the importance of taking a break to rest, but also the importance of spending time with family and friends. Trusting relationships are the key to a happy and healthy life!

Welcome Back to Another Exciting Term at St Paul’s!

Always in a Mindset of Improvement

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

On Monday, Teachers and Learning Coaches travelled to Jindera to work and learn with staff from Wagga Lutheran School and St John’s.  The PD day was led by Derek Bartels (LEVNT for 12 months while Kim Powell is on leave.)

Thanks to the professional building skills of Joshua Bromilow, we have also created a new Principal office space in our admin building.

I am looking forward to sharing our vision for learning environments at our next Parent Information Night on Tuesday 15 November at 6:30pm.

Yours in Christian Service

Brad Moss

The focus was framed around contemporary learning and working through Project-Based Learning units. An added benefit was the time spent building relationships within staff in our three Lutheran schools.

Whilst staff are always committed to learning and improving as educators, we are also committed to the learning environment we create for our students. This is evident as we embark on a grounds and maintenance refurbishment plan. The initial stages have seen several interior rooms repainted and new locks on all doors. We have just had the hall repainted and will continue the hall revamp with new doors and floor coverings.

HAPPENINGS WITH HOLLIE

Our focus areas for Term 4 are:

Appreciation and Collaboration

Our teaching team had a terrific beginning to the term putting into action these two things. Appreciation is the recognition and enjoyment of the good qualities of someone or something. On Monday this week, we were able to hear about Contemporary Learning – PBL and then listen to colleagues share their PBL units. We reflected on what we liked about them, what we wondered and gave suggestions also. Through this process we were able to reflect on some deep and authentic units of work. There was genuine appreciation for each other’s units and it was wonderful to see this in action. Appreciation in our school this term will begin with being able to recognise and verbalise what we appreciate in others. Miss Ridley has begun encouraging students to write ‘shout outs’ to each other. There is so much strength when focusing on the positives and the good in others!

Collaboration is the action of working with someone to produce something. Again, Monday was an example of this for our staff. One of the many brilliant elements of PBL is collaboration. Students in their small groups, or particular tasks throughout the journey, have to be able to collaborate with others. This is definitely a skill that needs practising and constant refining. To do this effectively, we need to communicate clearly, actively listen to others, take responsibility for mistakes and respect the diversity of others. We don’t expect our students to get this right all the time, in fact, even as adults we don’t always get it right.

We are really happy with our Learner Profile! Monday was another example of when we felt like we’re really on the right track with this. The key skills that we have identified on the Learner Profile, are areas that all human beings need in many different situations and we spoke about each one through our discussions on contemporary learning.

+ I am empathetic

+ I am a risk-taker

+ I am curious

+ I am collaborative

We look forward to sharing our journey with you this term as we learn more about what it means to be appreciative and to collaborate.

Blessings,

Hollie

YEAR K/1/2

This term our Kinders are using our new Literacy program – InitiaLit. ‘InitiaLit is an evidence-based   whole-class literacy program providing all children with the essential core knowledge and strong foundations to become successful readers and writers.’ InitiaLit is suited perfectly to the new English Syllabus that is required to be implemented across all Primary Schools in NSW next year. Year 1 and 2 will be doing elements of the program also, however, will still be bringing home SMART Spelling words for their spelling this term. I look forward to sharing more about this over the coming weeks.

Our PBL unit this term will start in a couple of weeks but already we are excited about starting. The focus is Science – the Physical World, where we will be learning about types of energy and forces. We will be learning about light, sound and heat energies and particularly relating this to the energies of Christmas. What do you think of when you think about the sounds, lights and smells of Christmas?

We’re learning about Multiplication and Division in maths and have been discussing groups of and arrays. Feel free to do some at home together!

YEAR 3/4/5/6

Hi families,

3-6 have had a fantastic and very busy term! Last week, 3-6 investigated how hydraulics work by creating a forklifting using a syringe system. We used our problem-solving skills and creative thinking to design our forklifts. By the end of the lesson, all groups had an operating hydraulic forklift!

Many blessings,

Miss Ridley

This term in Creative Arts students will be focusing on Music.

K-2 will be experiencing music from different times (symphony), music from different lands (Africa and Denmark), music for different purposes (spiritual and clapping rhymes), music for dancing (old time dance and folk dance), and how music and dance can tell a story (mime and sound story).Through these areas they will be exploring the musical elements of beat, rhythm, melody, dynamics, tempo, form, and tone colour.

3-6 will be experiencing songs with actions, songs and dance from different lands (East Timor), song and dance from different times (Colonial Australia), and song and dance for special occasions (festivals).Through these areas they will be exploring the musical elements of beat, rhythm, melody, harmony, tempo, form, and style.

CREATIVE ARTS

Mrs Jill Tucker will be visiting St Paul's on Friday 21st October. She is a very experienced examiner of speech and does her best to put students at ease.

Students in Years 5 & 6 have been preparing work for the occasion, but still need to brush up a little to be at their best on the day.

Parents and Friends are encouraged to come to support their child and be part of the exam process.

If you would like to discuss anything relating to the work your child is doing please feel welcome to call me on 0427 889 599.

Best wishes to all,

Grace Stein

What a Week!

After two years off, HMFD 2022 came back in a big way and the P&F would like to say a massive THANK YOU to all our volunteers who helped make it the success it was.

We look forward to sharing with everyone very soon exactly how successful it was in monetary terms - but for me personally it was as big a success in terms of seeing our school community and friends band together to create a thoroughly enjoyable work environment. Even in the craziness of the lunch time rush, even by day three when crowds were huge and we were feeling tired - it was still a really enjoyable place to be! And that can only be attributed to the wonderful group of people we have here at St Paul's.

Blessed to be part of the St Paul's Family,

Kerri

There will be space in the Concert program to showcase some of our student's individual creativity.

Any students who would like to audition will need to submit their name to their classroom teacher by Monday 17 October, and auditions will be held early next week.

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

It's almost time to pack our shoeboxes!

We have a little time up our sleeve so if anyone would still like to send items in please feel free to do so, by the end of Week 2 would be ideal.

Circular Economy Survey

The circular economy is a model of production and consumption, which involves sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing, and recycling existing materials and products for as long as possible.

The Department of Regional NSW (DRNSW) is interested to hear from those businesses who see themselves as part of the circular economy and are happy to provide information (via the attached survey) that will help identify the depth and breadth of the circular economy and businesses to work together across the Riverina Murray Region.

If you are a processor, distributor, recycler, collector, retailer, or any other business who operates within the Circular Economy, we would be keen to understand a little about you and the raw and waste materials that flow into and from your business.

There are many regional businesses that are not aware of the significant value add they can provide to one another through sharing their waste streams.

DRNSW is looking to identify businesses that see themselves as operating within the circular economy to gain a better knowledge of the raw material inputs and outputs to understand where waste material from one business may be a raw material for another.

It would be appreciated if you could spend some time (no more than 8 minutes) to complete the survey.

The information gained will be used to identify opportunities to support and connect circular economy businesses in a meaningful way on an ongoing basis.
