Welcome back to a busy term!

On our Professional Development Day at the start of Term 2, the amazing Henty staff hosted our colleagues from Lutheran School Wagga and St John’s Lutheran School.

It was a fantastic day working with Sam Kourakis, from AIS NSW, where she led all staff through restorative practices and how we support positive student well-being. The final session of the day saw Anna-Marie Bothe from Jindera working with Henty and Wagga staff on Project-Based Learning, while Dylan Evans from Wagga continued working on a restorative practice session with Jindera staff.

Yours in Christian Service

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

INSPIRED is… A seamless P-12 Lutheran education in the Riverina: INSPIRED is a community of four Riverina-based Lutheran schools providing a seamless educational experience from Pre-school to Year 12. INSPIRED families can expect a consistent approach underpinned by Lutheran values and a shared understanding of purpose and educational excellence.

Jesus Brings Healing Through

As a Christian school, Restorative Practices help us acknowledge when harm has been done to others and how to heal hurt. We are reminded that God created every single one of us as equally loved and valued, which is a powerful message in helping children develop a healthy sense of self. By accepting everyone and celebrating our differences, we create a welcoming school environment to help people feel like they belong. Jesus is the perfect example of unconditionally loving people – his example underpins how we are to treat each other at St Paul’s.

As Jesus said in John 13:34 -

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.”

HAPPENINGS WITH HOLLIE

What a terrific start to the term we’ve had! It was great having staff from Jindera and Wagga with us as we delved into what Restorative Practices are.

Restorative Practice fits in beautifully with our wholistic approach to student wellbeing. The most profound learning takes place when positive relationships between teachers, students and parents exist. Restorative Practices assists teachers, students and parents to build, maintain and restore relationships within a community. It also enables students to self-regulate their emotions and contributes to improved learning outcomes. Communication is fundamental in Restorative Practices. Through restorative conversations, students are asked questions like:

·         What happened?

·         What were you thinking at the time?

·         What have you thought about since?

·         Who has been affected by what you have done? In what way?

·         What do you think you need to do to make things right?

The framework of Restorative Practices is an excellent match to the Christian faith. It is a way that we can live out our values, beliefs and faith on a daily basis. This is exciting for us as a school. Relationships are at the core. Just like Jesus demonstrated a key emphasis on promoting healing and the strengthening of relationships. The healthier our relationships, the stronger we are, both individually and as a community.

We’ve certainly hit the ground running in Term 2…

+ A huge thank you to Felicity Habermann for a really well organised and smooth Athletics Carnival. Holding our carnival at SPC is another example of building and strengthening connections.

+ 3/4s had a great excursion to Echuca this week. It makes my heart happy to hear positive comments about our amazing students. One tour guide at Echuca, affectionately known as ‘Bluey’, commented how he would love to have our students back again the next day as they were an enjoyable, well-behaved group of students. Way to go 3/4s!

+ Next Tuesday (9th May) is a special chapel service to celebrate the special women in our lives – Mother’s Day! We hope to see as many mothers and grandmothers as possible next week at 9:20am for chapel, followed by a morning tea and activities in classrooms.

+ Monday 15th May @10-11:30am is our St Paul’s Open Day. We’re proud of our school and would love others to experience it also… Please spread the word!

Blessings,

Hollie

CREATIVE ARTS

This term in Creative Arts students have been exploring the theme ‘All About Me’ through the artforms of Visual Arts and Drama. They have drawn a caricature version of themselves, used technology to create an avatar in their likeness, used their name as the focus of a piece of art, and mimed some of their favourite activities.

Check out the photos of the students’ amazing creations and see if you can guess who they belong to! (some may be more obvious than others 😊)
