TERM 2
WEEK 5
WEEK 5
The Growing Deep Framework is a Lutheran School initiative that provides guidelines on how we ‘live’ and ‘Interact’ in our schools.
Below are some key points that are not only vital relationship strategies within our school community but are also invaluable skills in all aspects of our lives.
In any relationship, being able to listen and take time to empathise with another person’s point of view, creates a solid base to develop the relationship.
Listens attentively
· Makes oneself available and provides undivided attention to others, even when stressed and busy. Listens attentively, with an open mind when others are speaking. Others feel they have had the opportunity to speak, be heard and know that their contribution is valued.
Speaks clearly and sensitively
· Presents messages in a clear, logical and respectful manner. Communicates difficult or unpopular information in an honest and diplomatic way that is both sensitive and responsive to the different circumstances, background, beliefs and culture of others.
Openly engages others
· Makes it safe for others to talk truthfully and openly. Makes it clear that their views are genuinely heard and understood. This includes asking clarifying questions and reflecting back to confirm understanding. When unclear, invites others to elaborate so as to gain a full and clear understanding of the situation or perspective.
Understands deeply
· Understands the deeper, underlying reasons for the patterns of behaviour, unspoken thoughts and feelings of others. Uses this deep understanding of underlying intentions, concerns or motives to anticipate and interpret behaviours or actions.
Staff at St Paul’s are committed to building an outstanding school that takes the time to listen and hear what the students, parents and community are saying! We value all relationships and strive to be the best school possible for our students.

Parents are often the backbone of a school community. Ever since being involved at St Paul’s, I have been so impressed and blown away by the dedication the parent body shows to our school.
Here are just some of the activities that parents throw themselves into:
Working in tuckshop, helping with mainly music, attending chapel, helping with working bees, driving students to events, driving the bus for camps, helping to coach students in different sports, helping to prepare the Father’s Day breakfast, P & F member, Board member, marketing committee member, helping with swimming lessons, working at the Field Days, coming to school for PBL presentations…
These are just the physical activities that have been done by parents. You all help so much by: listening to your child/ren read, reading stories to your child/ren, helping them with homework, asking about their day at school, showing an interest in their learning, packing lunchboxes, washing school uniforms, getting them organised for casual clothes days, contributing money for lunch orders and other SRC led activities, encouraging them with their learning, caring for their wellbeing and so much more!
Parents – we thank you for all the big and little ways that you help to make our school a better place. You are all greatly appreciated and St Paul’s wouldn’t be the same without your contributions. We would love to see you all at the Parent Helpers’ Wine and Cheese evening Tuesday 19th November at 5.30pm. This is just one small way that we can share our appreciation to you for all that is done for the students.
Just a friendly reminder that we would prefer students to have healthy food in their lunchboxes.
Please save the chocolates and lollies for home.
Thank you.

Last week the 4-6 class visited us. The older students became the teachers, helping the K/1 students to practise reading their reader. Then we got into small groups and performed the play that was in the back of the Year 1 reader called Groovy Haircuts. What fun was had by all!
In Christian Studies this term we are looking at the wonder of God. We are making our own books on our computers entitled The Book of Wonder. This has really helped us to develop and improve our computer skills. We look forward to sharing them later in the term.

We have enjoyed another Kinder Transition – this one was based on The Rainbow Fish. Everyone had fun painting and creating a fish scene, trying to catch fish with fishing rods and playing memory.
Blessings,
Miss Ridley
In maths, 2/3 have been investigating repeating and growing number patterns. We have had a go at solving missing numbers in patterns as well as creating our own patterns.
In literacy, we have been practising summarising texts. We can summarise texts by finding the main idea and answering who, what, when, where, and why. We can also summarise a text by recalling the beginning, the middle and the end of the text.
4/5/6 have investigated various forces over the past two weeks, creating parachutes using a serviette and a freezer bag, and comparing the results. We look forward to showcasing our learning as we take on the challenge of addressing our driving question ‘How can we as engineers educate our peers about the different forces?’
This week students have begun their Maths Investigation ‘Double Trouble’.
Please join us next Tuesday for our Year 4 and 5 Chapel.
Blessings,
Felicity
We had such a lovely morning spending time with our Grandparents!
The 2/3 class lead our special Grandparents Day Chapel on Tuesday which was followed by a picnic morning tea. We enjoyed playing games, reading to our grandparents and showing them around the school.
Thank you to all our grandparents and family for joining us!

K-3 were given the opportunity to sing at the Ladies Guild meeting. We were also able to thank them for providing money to purchase a school set of Bibles.
We look forward to a continued connection between the school and the church.
On Friday 1st of September, Years 3 to 6 went to Yerong Creek for the Bernie O’Connor Carnival. We played with St Joseph’s, Culcairn and St Patrick’s, Holbrook. It was a great day! The sun was shining, and everyone had lot’s of fun.
The 5/6 boys played footy and came 1st for the whole day. We played against The Rock and the score was 12 to 32. The 3-4 boys came 3rd in the whole day. Well done to the 5/6 and 3/4 girls playing netball who got runners up.
Well done to Ivan and Neve for playing with students they didn’t know.
Congratulations to Blake for winning the furthest kicking competition.
Thank you for the coaches and families who helped on the day.
