A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Anna- Marie Bothe Principal

Thank you to everyone in our St Paul’s community who supported our students by attending our School Variety Concert on Friday 14th August. We’re so proud of our students’ courage, teamwork and talent! What a wonderful community night that brought families and friends together.

Meaningful Service Learning at St Paul’s

So far Term 3 has been full of co-curricular activities that enrich school life, such as our Variety Concert, interschool sport, speech competition and Year 5/6 Camp.

This week, Celia Fielke from Australian Lutheran World Service (ALWS) came to St Paul’s to provide valuable learning for our students about how they can support the poorest of the poor in countries around the world. As a Christian school, we believe God has given us the responsibility to care for others in our homes, community and the world. This term, our school value of ‘We are Empowered’ is all about using our gifts, talents, knowledge and skills to make a positive difference for others, linking perfectly with the work of ALWS. Each year our school families support the work of ALWS through fundraisers. Below is a poster of this term’s school value, showing how student characteristics of our Learner Profile reflect our students being empowered:

Lions Public Speaking Competition

Congratulations to Daniel, who represented Henty at Thurgoona on 16th August. Daniel spoke clearly and confidently and he can be proud of his efforts! Well done, Daniel!

Quiz Worx and Flying Fruit Fly Circus:

Last week we thoroughly enjoyed 2 wonderful performances. The Quiz Worx performance reminded us how we are blessed to have a mighty, loving God as our heavenly Father. The Flying Fruit Fly Circus put on a very impressive display of jumping, juggling, balancing and acrobatics. We loved it!

Bernie O’Connor Cup:

The Year 3-6 students had a great time at Yerong Creek last Friday playing football and netball. Congratulations to both football teams, who not only made it to the Grand Final, but won! The 3/4 netball team also made it to the grand final. All teams tried their very best and can be proud of their efforts.

Book Week:

This week we have been celebrating Book Week. On Wednesday we enjoyed seeing all students dressed up as their favourite book characters for the Book Week Parade. All week we have also been having a Book Fair. Parents are welcome to come along to the mainly music room to have a look at the books that are for sale. Students made their wish lists on Monday. Maybe time to do some early Christmas shopping!

Marketing Videoing:

Filming has begun for our marketing videos. Thank you to all for your assistance with permission forms. The filming crew were back on Wednesday to do some videoing of Book Week Parade and will return next Wednesday (2nd September) and will be filming both parents and students throughout the day. We look forward to some amazing reels and videos that we can use to showcase our amazing school.

Henty Machinery Field Days:

This event is fast approaching! Just a reminder that there will be communication going out soon asking for volunteers for manning the food stall. Thank you in anticipation for your willingness to assist in this. It is the P & F’s only fundraiser for the year, so it is great when everyone can be involved in any way possible.

There will also be communication soon asking what days your child/ren plan on being at school while the Field Days are on. If this could be responded to as soon as possible it would be appreciated.

If your child/ren are at school on Wednesday (23rd September) there will be NO BAKERY ORDERS.

Just a friendly reminder that students need a HAT everyday!

BOOK FAIR

Book Fair & Book Parade

We will be holding our Book Fair from Monday 24th – Friday 28th August in the mainly music room.

Purchase in person at school between 8:45-9:15am and 3:30-4:00pm each day (students need to be accompanied by an adult)

Order online Book Fair Highlights  for direct delivery to your home (follow the instructions online)

Our Book Parade will be held on Wednesday 26th August at 9:30am. Students are invited to come dressed as their favourite book character. Families are welcome to come along!

MRS BIAR'S CLASS

The K-3 class have been looking at Digital Technology this term. We have been studying algorithms and how we need to follow steps to do so many things. We have had a great time using the Bee Bots and making them follow instructions. We then used them to play a game of Snakes and Ladders. There was quite a process to make the Bee Bot go up a ladder or down a snake!

The K-2 class did such a great job at our Variety Concert.

We loved seeing all those monkeys jumping on the bed! During the week leading up to the performance, we averaged only 4 monkeys, but luckily, we had all 7 little monkeys on the night! The students also did a fantastic job with their music and dancing items. I am so proud of them all!

MRS BASSETT'S CLASS

In 3/4, we have been enjoying our new text study The Wild Robot. The novel follows Roz the robot’s journey in the wild and explores the themes of friendship, survival, and belonging.

Students in 4-6 participated in a fun team building challenge using a pencil attached to five strings, with each team member controlling one string. To create a picture, students had to communicate, cooperate, and work together. The activity highlighted the importance of teamwork and encouraging your peers.

MISS H'S CLASS

It has been a busy last few works of term – RAS Athletics, Canberra Camp, Leadership activities (soccer and netball), concert, QuizWorx, Flying Fruit Fly performance, Bernie O’Connor Football/Netball carnival and 5/6 Chapel. It has been great to see the students embrace, participate in and contribute to these activities.

Camp Highlights for students:

Tilly – My highlight was going to AIS and seeing future potential professional athletes and seeing where they train. I also liked going to Questacon and seeing all the science things.  

Evie – The War Memorial

Meg – My highlight at camp was going to Questacon and doing the free fall slide. My other highlight was going to AIS and seeing professional athletes, and the Parliament House.

Tahnee – Going to the Old Parliament House and the bus

Ryan –  My highlight at camp was going to Questacon and Frisbee golf.

Wyatt –  Having my friends in my room and going to Questacon and AIS.

James – Having my friends in my dorm room and going to Questacon, the AIS and Parliament House and Old Parliament House and being Prime Minister......

Connor –  Questacon was fun. Going on the bus was fun as well.

Bella –  Going to AIS

Louisa – I liked the big slide at Questacon. I also liked Parliament House.

Adele –  The War Memorial was pretty fun and taught me a lot of stuff about the war. I also liked Questacon but the items were super overpriced. :)

Ty – My highlight of camp was Frisbee golf.

Term 2 Fundraising

From our fundraising in term 2 we were able to donate $70 to FightMND.

Leadership Activity – Cooking

This term cooking we are looking forward to making delicious chocolate spiders and sausage rolls to sell at our next pop-up tuckshop.

Upcoming Events

For the last day of term, we are doing a trivia afternoon with lots of fun questions with snacks and drinks available to purchase. Students will be able to wear causal clothes for a gold coin donation.

SPORTS REPORT

Leadership Activity – Soccer

In the soccer tournament there are four teams, two teams combine in a game because they only have one umpire. Gabe and James are the ones who organised the soccer tournament. The team captains are Az, John, Micheal, Wyatt. There is going to be a grand final in the coming weeks.

Leadership Activity – Netball

Louisa and Bella are running skills sessions to learn the positions of netball, shooting, and passing the ball correctly in a range of games and activities.

RAS Athletics

18 students travelled to Albury for the RAS Athletics carnival on Tuesday 4th August. We had a great day, and some amazing results from our students.

We had one student from our school that made it to Sydney, and we wish James all the best next week.

Abel (Junior) – 2nd in 1500m

Our PP5 relay team of Meg, Tilly, Harriet and Ryan – 1st

Junior boys relay team of Archie, John, Az and Gabe – 3rd

Meg (12/13yrs) – 5th in 100m

Harriet (11yrs) – 4th in 1500m and 5th in long jump

Azariah (Junior) - 4th in high jump and 4th in long jump

Ty (Junior) – 5th in shot put and 4th in discus

James (11yrs) – 5th in shot put

Bernie O’Connor Football/Netball Carnival

At Bernie O’Connor the 5/6s in football made it to the grand final and won 42-13. We were combined with St Joseph’s and St Patrick’s. The 3/4 class were able to enter as a team themselves, making it through to the grand final and winning – playing against the St Jospeh’s and St Patrick’s team. Our junior netball side (while only having 6 of them), won 3 and drew 1 game throughout the day, also making it to the grand final. Our senior netballers had a tough day of competition, but tried their best all day, and showed great improvement.

P&F UPDATE

The P&F have already had a busy year and there is MUCH more to come! Thank you to those who attended the meeting on the 4th August, 7pm at St Pauls. Keep an eye out for the minutes for those who couldn't make it.

Our main fundraiser for the year is less than two months away - so all things Henty Machinery Field Days are about to happen. Keep an eye out for roster requests in the next few weeks, and make sure you keep some time free to come join in at the food shed. Start teeing up friends and family too, and don't feel shy to tell them it's the shed with the best food and the best people to work with! Field Days runs from 22-24 September.
