A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Anna- Marie Bothe Principal

New Principal Beginning in 2027

We begin our first newsletter for Term 3 celebrating the wonderful news that St Paul’s has appointed a new principal, Jonathan Schmidt, who will begin his leadership role in January 2027. All school families received a letter this week via email from our School Board Chair, Joanne Knobel, sharing the exciting news. Jonathan is currently teacher and Year 1&2 Community Leader at Victory Lutheran College and brings a wealth of educational and leadership experience to the role, having also had experience as Acting Head of Junior School. Having such a relational principal with established community connections at St Paul’s 5 days a week will further enhance our school’s positive culture and innovation. I look forward to collaborating with Jonathan in my continuing role next year as principal at St John’s Lutheran School, Jindera. What a blessing Jonathan will be to St Paul’s!

New Hall Sound System

Many thanks go to our amazing P&F for making a considerable contribution to the cost of our school hall’s new sound system! We are so grateful for the ongoing support of our strong P&F. We look forward to using the sound system for our School Concert on Friday 14 August.

School Value Focus

This term, we are focusing on the school value: We are Empowered. We love the message of this school value – that God equips our students with knowledge and skills through their learning so they can have a positive impact on others. It’s about giving our students the opportunity to have a voice, to feel valued and realise they can make a difference. Our school worship for the term is based on this theme and we have already had wonderfully empowering messages shared with our students.

As our poster shows, the following Bible verse is the basis for this school value:

Welcome back to Term 3! I hope everyone had a lovely break and are ready for plenty of learning and fun at St Paul’s!

Lions Public Speaking Competition

Congratulations to Tilly, Meg, Daniel and Skylar for doing such a great job at the Lions’ Junior Public Speaking Competition on Sunday 26th July. They all put so much effort into it and can be proud of their achievements. Well done to Meg for being the runner up in the Year 5/6 category, and Daniel for winning the 3/4 category! Daniel is now on to Thurgoona on August 16th to compete in the next round. We wish him all the best! A special thank you to Grace Stein, who helped to coach and encourage all the finalists, and has also been giving Daniel extra help for the next stage. We appreciate your passion and commitment to public speaking, Grace!

SRC Representatives

Our new SRC reps for this term are Liam, Sora, Archie, Meg, Tilly, Harriet and Adele. They are already planning some new and fun activities for the students.

Jeans for Genes Day

Last week we were involved in the Jeans for Genes fundraiser, raising funds for the Children’s Medical Research Institute. Staff and students wore denim and blue, and some of the student leadership team baked blue cupcakes and made blue jelly. We were able to raise $150 – great effort everyone!

Hats

Just a reminder that as the weather warms up, hats will be required at school. If the UV rating is 3 or above (moderate) hats are needed for students to play. Could all students please keep their hats at school or in their bags in case they are needed.

Save the Date – 14th August

Our School Variety Concert is fast approaching! Make sure you save the date to come along and see the amazing talent of our students. There will be a matinee at 12:00pm and the evening performance at 6:30pm. We would love to see you all here!

AI & The Digital Generation

Please register for the AI & The Digital Generation Webinar on Wednesday August 19th.  It promises to give practical tips to support smart choices online for parents and students.  (See flyer in the Community Notice Board below)

Book Fair & Book Parade

We will be holding our Book Fair from Monday 24th – Friday 28th August in the mainly music room.

Purchase in person at school between 8:45-9:15am and 3:30-4:00pm each day (students need to be accompanied by an adult)

OR

Order online Book Fair Highlights  for direct delivery to your home (follow the instructions online)

Our Book Parade will be held on Wednesday 26th August at 9:30am. Students are invited to come dressed as their favourite book character. Families are welcome to come along!

MRS BIAR'S CLASS

There have been so many things happening already in the first 3 weeks!

In the first week we had Hannah Veerhuis, a Year 10 student from Wagga Wagga Christian College, come for work experience. She was able to get a taste of being a teacher and see if it is a fit for her.

In the first week of school, we also had Gail and her dog Finn come in to talk about responsible pet ownership and how to approach a dog. Finn was very happy to have a pet from all the students!

Last week, the K-3 students visited the Henty Library for their Open Day. Three firefighters came along and spoke about fire safety, then we listened to some books, did some colouring in and borrowed some books to read in the classroom.

Then we had our 100-days of Kindergarten celebrations! We enjoyed some party games (such as musical chairs, pass the parcel and a pinata) as well as some 100 second challenges and some party food.

The Kinders have grown so much in the last 100 days of school!

We are hard at work practising our concert items and can’t wait to share them with you at the Variety Concert!

MRS BASSETT'S CLASS

In Maths this week, Year 3 are investigating how different coins and notes can be added to reach the same total. Year 4 are learning to use fraction walls and other visuals to identify equivalent fractions.

During our storybook study - Storm Boy - we have been investigating the landscape of the Coorong in South Australia. We have learnt many interesting things including that some birds migrate from Alaska and Siberia to the Coorong!

MISS H'S CLASS

It has been a busy start to the term – preparing for concert and our camp to Canberra, as well as all our regular learning activities.

To begin the term, 5/6 are reading ‘Once’ by Morris Gleitzman, a powerful historical fiction novel set during World War II.

It follows Felix, a brave and optimistic Jewish boy who escapes from an orphanage and embarks on a journey to find his parents. Along the way, he witnesses the realities of the Holocaust, forms important friendships, and shows remarkable courage in the face of danger. Written with warmth, humour, and heart, Once helps young readers understand an important period in history through the eyes of a child.

This term in Science, 4/5/6 are exploring the changes to the Earth’s surface in our ‘Earth in Action’ unit. We have been learning about weathering, erosion and deposition, and engaged in an Earth model challenge in which students had to create a miniature landscape (which included a hill, river and flat area), and observe the changes to their landscape as water was applied.

AUTHOR VISIT - HARRY LAING

This week the 3/4 class went to the library and we saw a poet called Harry Laing. He was very funny.

The activities we did were to write 2 poems. The first was to choose something in the room and write what we think it's dreams would be. The next one was about a character that was made out of one thing and what it’s enemy would be, for example Rock Man verses Country Bro.

Everybody really liked Harry’s poem “Rapper Bee.”

SPORTS REPORT

CIS Cross Country

Last week Harriet and Abel competed at the CIS Cross Country Championships in Sydney. Harriet came 57 out of 96, while Abel came 84 out of 99.

Congratulations to both students on this fantastic achievement.

Leadership Activity – Football Competition

The football competition went well and we played the grand final on the whole field. John’s team won the grand final and everyone had fun.

Well done to Wyatt, Ryan and James on organising and running this great competition.

P&F UPDATE

The P&F have already had a busy year and there is MUCH more to come! Thank you to those who attended the meeting on the 4th August, 7pm at St Pauls. Keep an eye out for the minutes for those who couldn't make it.

Our main fundraiser for the year is less than two months away - so all things Henty Machinery Field Days are about to happen. Keep an eye out for roster requests in the next few weeks, and make sure you keep some time free to come join in at the food shed. Start teeing up friends and family too, and don't feel shy to tell them it's the shed with the best food and the best people to work with! Field Days runs from 22-24 September.
