A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Anna-Marie Bothe

Principal

Nature Play SA identifies several types of outdoor play that are beneficial for children's development. These include:·

  • Physical Play: Activities like running, jumping, climbing, and playing sports that improve physical health and motor skills.
  • Creative Play: Using natural materials to create art or build structures, fostering creativity and imagination.
  • Exploratory Play: Investigating nature, such as looking for insects or collecting leaves, which enhances curiosity and learning.
  • Social Play: Playing with others in outdoor settings, which helps develop social skills and teamwork.
  • Risky Play: Engaging in activities that involve a degree of risk, like balancing on logs or climbing to heights, to build resilience and confidence.

Encouraging children to spend more time outdoors can lead to numerous benefits for their overall development. We thank God for our beautiful school grounds and rural surroundings.

What a wildly wonderful world, God!

You made it all, with Wisdom at your side, made earth overflow with your wonderful creations.

Psalm 104:24-30

(The Message Bible)

Outdoor Play: Fun and Learning Combined!

At St Paul’s, we believe in the power of outdoor play to boost our students' development and well-being. Our staff have been learning about the benefits of different types of outdoor play as we review what our school grounds offer our students and start to explore new possibilities. In the next few weeks, our staff and students will vote on elements of new playgrounds as we work towards a design for our new school playground!

According to research from Nature Play SA, playing outside helps children explore, discover, and challenge themselves in a natural environment. This not only enhances their physical health but also supports their cognitive and social skills. By engaging in activities like climbing, running, and imaginative play, children learn to navigate risks and build resilience!

CHRISTINE'S

CORNER

Autumn is well and truly here now, and the leaves are great for play! See some of the ways that the students have been enjoying the autumn fun!

Now that the mornings are cool and the days still warming up, jackets are being taken off. Just a reminder that if all school uniforms are named, it is so much easier to return a lost article of clothing to its owner.

On Tuesday we were lucky enough to have the Youth Officer with Albury Police, Joshua Hudson, come to visit and speak to all students about cyber safety. This is such an important topic to discuss with children, so we were grateful for his talk.

We are looking forward to our next Friday Night Gathering this Friday, June 6th at 5.30pm. Please note the earlier time. Everyone is welcome to come along, enjoy some fellowship with others and share a meal together. Please bring something along to share for tea.

I hope everyone enjoys the long weekend, and that it is a chance to relax, sleep in and recuperate from the sniffles that are certainly around.

Christine Biar

Just a friendly reminder that students need a HAT everyday!

Thank you.

MRS BIAR'S CLASS

The K-3 class had a great time collecting leaves and using them to make some artwork. Who knew that a leaf could become a fish, a horse or an animal?

The K-2 group have been exploring the game of Hopscotch in a Maths investigation. They have played hopscotch, then designed their own game and trialled it out.

MISS RIDLEY'S CLASS

This week, 3&4 spent a morning reading and playing games with the residents at Myoora. Students enjoyed playing uno, go fish and completing puzzles with the residents as well as having a chat!

Blessings,

Miss Ridley

What an experience we had in Ballarat and Bendigo for our school camp last week with our friends from St John’s!

Thank you to Tim for driving us around and getting us home safely.

Some of the Ballarat Camp highlights, as expressed by the students, are below:

MISS H'S CLASS

“Sovereign Hill, what a place, gold was everywhere people were rushing around trying to get their hands on gold. The 150-year-old Eureka flag is surprisingly still there but it was in very bad condition."     Simeon

“I enjoyed looking at shops at Sovereign Hill and what it was like for them in the olden times. Gold panning was fun, and we found heaps of gold. Also, the Eureka flag was bigger than I thought."    Neve

“My highlight would be Sovereign Hill, gold panning and the bus ride home since we got to listen to songs on the speaker."   Meg

“Ten pin bowling. Red hill mine. Eureka centre. Gold panning.”  Wyatt

“I learned that 3 women made the Eureka flag by themselves.”  Ryan

“Gold panning was one of my fav things and going down 61 metres in Bendigo gold mine. And of course, Sovereign Hill and the gift shop."   Tilly

“Sovereign Hill was good and Red Hill mine.”   Evie

“Gold panning, and the food was magnificent. And bowling was really good because I am the best at it."     Mahliq

“I loved Sovereign Hill the most, especially where we saw gold pouring, gold panning and the lolly shop."     Harriet

“I found a lot of gold. The bunk beds were comfy. The Eureka flag was really big and cool. It was the best."   Connor

“My highlight was the gold panning, it was fun and going underground was cool.”    James

Gold panning and going home to see my family.”  Ivan

“Sovereign Hill was amazing. The Deborah mine tour was fun. The Eureka Museum was really good."     Eli

GRANDPARENT'S DAY

We had such a lovely morning spending time with our Grandparents!

The 2/3 class lead our special Grandparents Day Chapel on Tuesday which was followed by a picnic morning tea. We enjoyed playing games, reading to our grandparents and showing them around the school.

P&F UPDATE

Well the Year of the Big Shed came, we saw it and we conquered it! The 2024 HMFD was a huge success. We had 150 shift spaces to fill and we did it! Thank you to all our families & friends who pitched in over the event. We needed your support and you didn't let us down.

Thanks to our combined effort we raised over $50,000!!

The P&F have decided to contribute $50,000 to be put towards a new playground and outdoor learning space at school, a place current and future students will be able to enjoy for many years to come.

Our first event in 2025 will be our annual Welcome BBQ to be held on Sunday 2nd February. This is always a great day to catch up after the summer break. More details to come in the New Year.
